A downloadable game for Windows

Talmut is a multiplayer card game made in Unreal Engine 5.

Currently faced a lot of challenges with the multiplayer in Unreal Engine so I left the project unfinished. It's playable and you can play through Steam with friends, but it may have some bugs.

I may return to the project in the future with more experience, but right now I'm going to focus in another portfolio projects :)

HOW THE GAME WORKS

Main Objective

The main objective of the game is to finish with the fewest points possible. The fewer, the better.

Cards

Cards are worth points, determined by their face value (e.g., the 7 card is worth 7 points), with several exceptions:

  • The 9 is worth 20 points.
  • The Ace (A or 1) is worth -10 points.
  • The Jack (J) is worth 11 points.
  • The Queen (Q) is worth 12 points.
  • The King (K) is worth 13 points.

Abilities

  • The Jack (J): Allows you to look at one of your own cards.
  • The Queen (Q): Allows you to look at one of your opponents' cards.
  • The King (K): Allows you to exchange one of your opponent's cards with one of your own.

If the central deck contains a card with the same number as one of your cards, you can play your card (regardless of whose turn it is) and reduce the number of cards you hold. However, if you make a mistake (e.g., a mismatch), you must keep your card and draw an additional one as a penalty. If the card you play is one of the three special cards mentioned above, its ability will activate.

Game Explanation

The game begins by dealing 4 face-down cards to each player. No one, including the dealer, can see these cards. The remaining deck is placed face-down in the center of the table.

At the start of the game, each player may look at 2 of their 4 cards without showing them to others. The game proceeds as follows:

  1. A player draws a card from the deck and examines it privately.
  2. Once they’ve examined the card, they can choose to:
    • Take the card and exchange it with one of their own (commonly done to replace a higher-point card with a lower-point card, e.g., replacing a 9 with a 4 to reduce total points).
    • Discard the card onto the flipped discard pile. If the card discarded has a special ability, that ability activates.

Ending the Game

When a player believes they have the lowest possible total points among all players, they can declare "Talmut" during their turn (using the SPACE). After this declaration:

  1. All other players finish their current turns as normal.
  2. When the turn returns to the player who declared "Talmut," the game ends without them playing again.
  3. All players reveal their cards and tally their points. The player with the lowest total is the winner.

This moment is critical, as opponents may still affect the outcome. For instance, an opponent could play a King (K) to swap your Ace for one of their higher-point cards, potentially causing your defeat.
